FHPS Transparency

Board of Education’s Mission is to provide all learners with educational opportunities “in partnership with our community,” yet BOE lacks the transparency required for community engagement.

BOE Communication

At this time, FHPS school board members use a single shared email account. A community constituent does not have the opportunity to reach any individual board members since their email and contact information are not available to the public. In the pursuit of transparency and accessibility, it would be beneficial for all school board members to have individual means of contact available for their constituents, such as personal FHPS email accounts.

Meeting Transparency

We are asking the Forest Hills Public Schools Board of Education to provide transparency by recording monthly board meetings or live streaming access. The claim that no school in the Kent Intermediate School District provides this kind of access is FALSE. Follow the links below to view recordings of board meetings for several schools systems within KISD.

Meeting Schedules

The finance meetings are scheduled at 8:30am and the curriculum meetings at 3pm. These meeting times are not conducive to public participation as most parents are working during these hours or currently dropping and picking their kids up from school due to a lack of transportation. Suggestions were made that the meetings be scheduled at later times. The Board is unwilling to change meetings times and/or record these meetings to be made available for viewing at a later time.

On September 20, 2021, the Board approved Zoom subscription renewal for $34,360. See item VII.B.2. Zoom Subscription Renewal. Sporting events, Musical Performances, Conferences can be livestreamed, why not board meetings?
