Forest Hills For JUST Education
WHO WE ARE
I joined Forest Hills for JUST Education (FH4JE) because I believe it is a group that cares deeply about the Forest Hills Community. This group is willing to disrupt the status quo in order to provide an exceptional and equitable education for all children in Forest Hills. I have a child in 7th grade at Forest Hills Public Schools. Here is my testimonial.
My paternal grandparents were first generation immigrants. My Aunt was from Austria. She came from a Catholic, well-off family who started to question what they were hearing about the Jewish community. Because of their wealth and status in the community, her Father had one of the few free radios. One time they invited in a neighbor. When this neighbor heard the opposite views on the free radio he became fearful and turned them in. The neighbor never talked to them about it, never shared their opposing view, just turned on them. Similar to what I am seeing when people express their opposite views today, neighbors…friends…all turning on each other. You would think that because of their status in the community that the police would of just took the radio, but that is not what happened. Instead, the authorities waited until the middle of the night, broke in, dragged off my Aunts Father and she never saw him again. Years later she learned that he was taken to a concentration camp and died in a gas chamber. He was not Jewish, he was Catholic and a high standing member of society. The stories she would tell me as a child, plus the stories I would hear from my parental grandparents have really shaped how I am experiencing what is happening around me as a parent in the Forest Hills Community.
My Aunt would tell me later in life that she married my uncle who was one of five brothers from my paternal immigrant grandparents, while he was serving in the Army. She did not marry him for love, but for the opportunity to come to the United States and feel freedom again. She of course liked him, she stayed married to him through out their lives and learned to love him, but Freedom meant more to her than love. That really stuck with me.
Forest Hills for JUST Education is made up of a diverse group of people – different political views, genders and ethnicities. They stand for Medical Freedom/Freedom of Choice. They are Pro Human; which CRT is not and they want School Board transparency. All the things I thought we already had? I want my child to go to a school where they practice real humanity, not politically made up, government mandated false humanity. That is why I joined this group.
FHPS speaks of collaboration and inclusivity, but it's hard to feel that way when something as simple as bringing your child their forgotten lunch requires that you are monitored by security cameras, forced to show government ID at the door, and operate with an armed police presence. I am insulted when I receive a letter telling me the science budget has been cut and asking for donations when the school system has received more money per student last year than any time in history, completely revamped the football stadium, and spent tens of thousands of dollars designing a ‘more acceptable’ mascot and logo. However, it is even more disheartening when I ask for details of this cut (from the contact given in the letter to answer questions) but never get a reply back.
My goals are the restoration of academic rigor, political balance provided at an age-appropriate level, transparency from the administration, and accountability to parents/the Forest Hills community."
